These simple, yet oh-so pretty, ornaments/gift tags are both fun and easy to make! Simply mix the dough, roll, cut, dry, hang!
what you’ll need for the dough:
small pot
1 c baking soda
1/2 c cornstarch
3/4 c water
what you’ll need for the ornaments/tags:
cooling rack
wooden rolling pin
drinking straw
small cookie cutters
twine (or something to string through hole to hang finished ornaments)
scissors
what you’ll do:
In pot, mix cornstarch and baking soda then add water. Place the pot on the stove on medium heat and stir constantly until dough forms (this happens pretty quickly). Once the dough has formed, turn stove off, and cover the pot with a damp cloth napkin or small towel and allow to cool.
Once cool, kneed the dough, roll with the rolling pin to about 1/8” thickness, and cut. Use the straw to punch a hole towards the top of each ornament/tag, but make sure it’s not so close to the top that the ornament will break once dry and more fragile. Gently move each cut ornament/tag to cooling rack and allow to dry overnight. Once dry, use twine, etc., to string through hole and create a hanging ornament/tag. You can also paint/stamp the ornaments if you’d like, or write names to use as gift tags.
Let us see your ornaments and/or tags by sharing them on social media and tagging them #kickscraft!
