Living the “abundantly simple life” is a refreshed life. Refreshed in the dictionary means having regained strength and energy. It is the Lord’s desire to do us good, refresh us, and bless us with His abundant blessing. This comes through His Living Waters of Life.

Revelation 22:1-2  says,

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life… and the leaves of the tree were for the healing…”

The word Life in this scripture is the Greek word, ‘Zoe’. This word means the God-kind of abundantly blessed life. The word water in this scripture means; fountains and pools, a deluge as if coming liken to waves of the sea. The word river in this scripture means floods and torrents of water. The Lord’s blessing is abundant, simple, and it is a deluge of His Life!

An impactful thing about this scripture is found in verse 2 where it says, “In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life…” It goes on to say, “the tree on either side of the river” is for healing. Life is the water and Life is in the tree.

The tree of Life is said to be on either side of the river. The word ‘tree’ here, is the Greek word, “xylon” which means, “wood as a beam from which one is suspended; a gibbet, a cross, a log or timber with holes in which the feet, hands, neck of prisoners were inserted and fastened with thongs, that fetter or shackle for the feet.

The amazing thing, is this picture the Lord has given us, is declaring to us in His word that there is a cross standing in the midst of Heaven as a memorial of the Life covenant He has brought us with Jesus. That cross has a deluge, a torrent, of living Waters of Life flowing right through the center of it. These are the rivers of waters of life for us to be refreshed, touched, changed, and to experience all the blessing of the Lord.

In John 7:38 Jesus tells us, “He that believeth on Me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

This is the same word for water, as found in Revelation 22:1. He is declaring that out of you shall flow the deluge of Life; the Life of God.

The Lord has brought us His waters; His rivers of life. He has brought healing to us in everything! Healing and salvation are one. He has brought His salvation to all things in our lives, that we may have life, and that we may live the “abundantly simple life,” which is found in the blessing of the Lord.

When Israel was in the wilderness, they were on their way to experience the land of milk and honey; a land of blessing, goodness, and good eating. The Lord cares about every aspect of our lives. He made it abundantly clear to Israel that He was Life and refreshment. He showed His example of this as He had Moses bring refreshing water from a rock, (Exodus 17:6). Those waters flowed abundantly and were meant to satisfy; they were meant to be received.

Jesus, who is Life Himself, is the water. He is the river. He is the water that came from the rock and He is the rivers that flow out of us. He is the Rock of our salvation, (Psalm 95:1). He is the Way, the Truth, the Life, (John 14:6). He has come that we may have Life, and Life more abundantly, (John 10:10). In Him is Life and this is the Light of men, (John 1:4). He has made known to us the ways of life, (Acts 2:28). We have His promises that we can walk in newness of life, (Romans 6:4). The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free, (Romans 8:2). We are to hold to His word of Life; the word of God, (Philippians 2:16)  Our names are written in the Lamb’s book of Life, (Phil 4:3). Jesus brought Life through the Gospel, (2 Timothy 1:10). We have the crown of Life, (James 1:12). His divine power has given us ‘all’ things that pertain to life, (2 Peter 1:3). Peter said that Jesus has the words of eternal life, (John 6:68), and Jesus Christ is our life, (Colossians 3:4).

It’s that simple. Life is from Him, is in Him, and is Him. He has given to us His blessing of Life in the abundance of His promises. This is for us to have and experience His “abundantly simple life.”

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” Revelation 22:17
