To be a witness is to bring light on behalf of the evidence. The dictionary describes a witness to, “have knowledge of (an event or change) from personal observation or experience.”  Revelation 1:2 tells us about John,

“Who bare record (witness) of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.”

As we find in the word, the teachings of Jesus reveal that, the Father bares witness of the Son, who is Jesus, and the Son bares witness of you, and the Holy Spirit bares witness of Truth. They all bare witness of the word. They all bare record of the word and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

To think about how the word of God expresses the evidence of faith is amazing. The teachings of Jesus expresses the will of the Father. The Holy Spirit expresses the power of truth. The Son expresses the word manifested to us. We can see faith as substance to all this (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith has its witness in the word, as the word bares record of the truth. It is our faith that is the evidence of this witness of the word. As we embrace the teachings of Jesus, we have the witness of the word of God, His salvation, and the blessing of the Lord, and we ourselves bare record and become the witness of the word. We now bare record and bare witness of the Son, as He fulfilled and bares witness of the word to us.

In Matthew 5:13-15, it says,

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

The Lord shows here that we through the witness of Jesus and what He has done for us, reveals God’s goodness and glory to the world. He takes a very individual position, personally and relationally, to witness to us His word in order that we are the light that shines His goodness and glory.

It is the plan of God to bring the blessing of His word to us that we may glorify His goodness, love, blessing, forgiveness, that is bearing record through us. So much so, Jesus said this in John 14:12-14,

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”

This is the witness of the word. Jesus, who is the word, was made flesh for us to see, taste, and experience all of the blessing. The word says our faith in Him will produce greater works, greater record, and greater witness in all that He has done in the earth. He makes it clear in John 14:12-14, that The Father is bearing witness of Him in our lives, to our lives, and through our lives. That’s why we are the salt of the earth, the light of the world, and a city set upon a hill. Our Father bears His record as He performs the witness of His word, of the Son, in our lives.

1 JOHN 5:6-8, the Lord tells us that,

“…it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.”

We find in verse 7, it is stating these three are One; the Father, the Word (who is Jesus according to John 1:1), and the Spirit. These bear record and witness, in heaven, which is the three working as One Trinity bearing witness and record in us. In verse 8, we find the Spirit, the water, and the blood bear record and witness on the earth and these three agree in one. The definition of this, Spirit, Water, Blood is Jesus. These all agree as One, as the record and witness was of God’s word in the earth. It’s found defined in Colossians 3:6,

“This is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood.”

All the Godhead working together to bare witness of His word on our behalf, is baring record to us in heaven and in earth. The word for this in the Greek is, “martyreō”. It defines to bear record and to bear witness as to affirm that one has seen or heard. That one has experienced something because they have been taught by Divine revelation or inspiration.

This takes us to Matthew 16 where Jesus asks Peter, ‘Who do you say that I am?” Peter responds, ‘You are the Christ, the living Son of God.’ Jesus’ response was clearly that the Father and the Spirit, bear witness of Him. He said,

“And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”

Everything regarding the Son, His blessing, His salvation, His teaching, His word is witnessed to you, in you, and through you. The Lord bares record of His word in our lives. He has manifested His word of life by the Spirit of truth and every promise in His word is yours. The witness of the word is His manifested blessing on your behalf.

Receive the goodness of the Lord and all that He has promised in His word. He has made witness of it through fulfilling everything in the word for you. His resurrection has completed it. His breath of life, the Holy Spirit teaches it. His shed blood has sealed it. The witness of the living word of God has born record of the blessing through the Son, Jesus, and His word and He are one. He always and will forever bare witness of His word in, to and through you.

Embrace, experience, and express the witness of the word. He is always revealing His word/Himself to us. Rise, receive, and rejoice in the expression of His glory, His word, and His blessing. You are the light of the world to bring glory to the Father through your good works of faith. Everything He has promised, He has given. And all He has done for you is yours to beautifully, and wonderfully, bare record of the witness of His word.
