When I hear the word ‘echo’, I think about when I was in the Swiss Alps, leaning over a beautiful balcony, saying, “Hello”. The sound it created back to me was, “hellohohohoho, hellohohohoho, hellohohohoho, hellohohohoho”, as every syllable, sound wave, and the word itself came back to me.

In Mark 11:22 Jesus said to us, “Have faith in God”. Interestingly, when we look at the Greek, the word ‘have’ is our keyword. This word is the word, ‘echo’. The Greek definition gives so much dimension and clarity to what Jesus was saying. The simple way to begin is to define this word as, ‘own it’. Own the faith of God. Own your faith in God. Own the God kind of faith!

The word ‘echo’ is so dynamic. An application of its magnitude and Greek definition is found in the phrases, “possessing it, it’s ability, and it’s condition”. Not only does it say to ‘own it’, as we read on, we find it means to have it, to hold it, to wear it, to be joined in covenant to it, to be joined by blood, marriage, friendship, and it clearly states in the Strongs Concordance, “to be in living union with the Son (Christ) and the Father by faith, knowledge, (and) profession”, and it closes with the definition, to be pregnant with His faith.

In light of this word, I think of Mary as she stood before the angel in Luke 1:38, when she answered him,

“And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.”

Mary had asked him how could this be? How can I become pregnant with the Son of God? The angel answered her and said that the power of the Holy Spirit will come upon you and literally her spoken agreement with the word of God achieved it.

This is the same as found in Genesis chapter 1. The world was dark, and the Holy Spirit moved upon it. The word was spoken, ‘Let there be”, and there was light. Mary embraced the faith of God. His faith became her faith. As she spoke, “Let it be”, the ‘echo’ of His very words, these words came back to her. The Holy Spirit moved on her behalf and she received the blessing and the performance of the word as said in Luke 1:45,

“And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.”

Mary’s spoken agreement of the word, was used by the Lord to bless the entire world. Her ‘echo’ of the faith of God brought the blessing and the performance of God, not only for her, but for you and me.

The amazing thing of Mark 11:22 is that Jesus is speaking to His disciples, to possess and own the living faith of Himself, Who is the living word. John 1:1-3 tells us,

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

Jesus was at creation. He was the spoken word, He was the light. Jesus was there in the spoken word to Mary. In Mark 11:22, as He stood before the disciples, He was saying have My faith, own it, join it, be in union with it, speak it, and echo my words. In Galatians 2:20 we find this very perspective,

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Simply, Jesus is asking His disciples, to ‘own’ His faith. He is making it clear that He is the author of our faith, (Hebrews 12:12). Everything He did, everything He does, is based on the words He spoke. He clearly went on to say, now, “you speak” in Matthew 21:21-22,

“Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

Believing in the faith of the Son of God, believing in the works of Jesus, believing in the words of Jesus, believing what He said is truth, is where the scripture comes to fruition in Romans 1:17,

“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”

His faith is your faith. Your faith is your ticket to His grand performance. Life is found in faith. Moving beyond what you don’t see is where living to the fullest exists. It’s where creativity, individuality, dreams, and the future expand. Faith is limitless. Faith is simple. Faith speaks. That’s the way Jesus has shown us how He uses His faith. The centurion knew it, He said “speak the word only” in Matthew 8:8,

“The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.”

The centurion knew the authority of Jesus’ spoken word. His connection to that was faith in operation as He spoke to Jesus, faith to faith. Jesus was so moved by this that it says in Matthew 8:10,

“When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”

So, embrace Him. Embrace His word. ‘Echo’ His voice. Own it and make it your own. Above all else, speak it and use His faith as He authors it in you. It’s that simple, the life you now live, you live by the faith of the Son of God, (Galatians 2:20).
