Everyday we find ourselves purposed in something. Each day we are entreated with following what we believe. Every morning when the sun rises and every night when the moon is revealed, we are always within the circle of our day; living out the counsel we have received from somewhere. What advice, information, philosophy, and thoughts are you embracing? These are what inspire and even define the delight in our hearts.

When we look up the definition of delight, we find it says to be pleased greatly. You can also be so greatly displeased with something that it would help frame what you would be greatly pleased with. It has been said that the thing you desire the most is what you will pursue. It would be fair to say then that your delight in something can lead you positively or can lead you astray.

If you place your delight in people, or things, politics, or kings, ideals, and dreams, jobs, and success, food, or drink, and even events, you will eventually come to find delight can let you down and these desires can be fickle and change. Delight focused incorrectly will at some point leave you empty and in need to seek new desire. Delight in the wrong things is never satisfied.

The Hebrew word for delight is the word, ‘Etsah’, which is defined as, counsel, advice, and purpose. In Psalm 1:1-3, we find a fulfilling way to experience the blessing of delight. The word of God says,

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Psalm 119:16, defines what the ‘law of the Lord’ is. It tells us that it is His statutes and it is His word. Statutes defined is a written decree of God.

“I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.”

Every blessing of your life is found in this written decree of God’s word. It was sealed by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. It was given freely to you through His death and resurrection. The Life source of your delight will empower the desires of your heart. You then find yourself,

“…like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psalm 1:3

Your delight in His word removes you from the counsel of things that produce hurt and loss in your life. Putting your delight in His truth removes you from standing in the way of the product and reward of sin. Delighting in the word of God removes you from the seat of guilt, scorn, and failure. The word of God is His blood sealed covenant through Jesus Christ. He has signed, sealed, and delivered every promise, and He has made it personally yours.

As you refocus on Him, as you refocus on what He has promised, and as you listen to His voice, He will direct your paths and give you the desires of your heart. Then all these things will be added to you. By doing things His way, by His counsel, by His design, by His direction, and by His advice, you will never go wrong. The Lord knows the counsel, advice, purpose, and plans He has for you. To do you good and not evil. (Jeremiah 29:11) The Lord delights in you.

“Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD’S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is. Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and He chose their seed after them, even You above all people, as it is this day.” Deuteronomy 10:14-15

The key to delight is in what you believe. It is in Who you choose to follow. Again, “Etsah”, meaning delight, in Hebrew is counsel, advice, and purpose. Choose His counsel in all things. Embrace His advice for everything. Live out His purpose everyday. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3-5

“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and He shall bring it to pass.”

There is a land of promise. It is a land of blessing set for you to possess. The Lord has given it to you for you to receive it. It is filled with good and plenty. It is filled with abundant life, and abundantly simple faith.  We are the Lord’s delight and it is His good pleasure to give us His goodness, to pour out upon us and through us His blessing. Delight yourself in Him as He delights in you. The land of delight is yours! Set your delight, your purpose, and your focus on Him and on His land of promise. It is a blessed land given for you. You can live it everyday and everything about you will prosper.

“And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.” Numbers 14:7-8
