Listening to what the Lord has to say brings expression of Himself to us and reveals how much we are His children. He has brought us into Himself by His love, and that love is embracing. His word goes so beyond our understanding, which is what ‘seriously listening’ is all about. He embraces us in His word.
Listening takes the act of laying down what you are thinking at the moment. Or even laying down what you think you already know and understand. Once you get a child’s attention and focus, they embrace what you are saying and find a world of expression that goes beyond their limited understanding. It goes beyond the world view man has created. That’s the way it is for us in listening to the Lord. He wants us to go beyond our understanding. When we do, that’s where we ‘hear’ His mind and our faith rises.
Matthew 11:15 says, “He who has ears, let him hear.”
Hearing is the key to using our faith. It says in Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”.
Let’s look at the principle here.
1. Faith comes by hearing.
In Mark 4:24 Jesus said, “Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you, and unto you that hear, shall more be given.”
We need to take heed to what we hear. We need to measure what He is saying through ‘seriously listening’. Through this we receive the principle of multiplication. The more we hear the more we have measured to us. Faith comes to us through hearing, hearing comes to us through the word of God.
2. Hearing comes by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 states that hearing comes by the word of God. The Lord is telling us that ‘hearing’ comes specifically from His word. As we question, “where did you say hearing comes from again?” We can find the answer in the Greek word ‘rhema’ defining, “the ‘word’ of God”.
The word ‘rhema’ in Greek means;
An utterance, that which is or has been uttered by the living voice, speech, discourse, what one has said, a thing spoken, a word, any sound produced by the voice and having definite meaning, a declaration of one’s mind made into words.
The word of God holds the mind, character, Light, and person of God. The word of God is what God has uttered, it is His voice, it is His speech. The word of God is the discourse of God Himself and is completely and undoubtedly declared. His word is infallible. His word is accurate. His word is Spirit. His word is spoken. His word is who He is. We find the Lord has made it clear that His word is how He has declared His ways and His thoughts. He has inspired His wisdom into words and given Himself to us. The written word of God is ours to behold. How could it be less than faith inspired and faith filled, as He has spoken and breathed to us, the word of God.
As we hear and receive His wisdom we have revelation of His mind, the mind of Christ. This is the ‘rhema’ of God. This is how ‘hearing’ increases in our lives. Through hearing and coming to know His word, faith rises. We come to fresh new, grace filled, wonder filled, levels of faith! This is why His word tells us that ‘He is the author and finisher of our faith’.
3. Seriously Listening
We simply have to remember, to embrace His word by ‘seriously listening’. Don’t allow traditions of men or traditional understandings, which are sent to nullify His word, to take from you fully embracing His Truths. Don’t allow philosophies or past experiences that shape man made theology, unbelief, or religion, to steal the simple Truth of God’s word away from you. ‘Seriously listening’ means you need to come to Him as a child and bring the expression of humility to receive the truth. The Truth is is the ‘rhema’ of what “He is saying”, which is found completely in and through His word. The logos written word of God, the Holy Bible, has been inspired by the breath of His rhema word spoken and is a gift to us to hear and embrace.
We are to be embracing His way of thinking. Start today by taking His Truth from His word and begin to hear it. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Begin to listen that He is a ‘good’ God. Psalm 25:8 says, “Good and upright is the Lord”. Begin “seriously listening to Him tell you about His goodness. You’ll find faith rise to new heights in you! You’ll find “seriously listening to His word, thinking on His thoughts, and saying them, will harvest faith that amazes and brings His promised results.
